Northern American - Modern Phenomena

New LA quartet Northern American are getting a lot of the right sort of comparisons and compliments; The National, The Shins, 'Brit pop splashed shuffly dream pop' (The Line Of Best Fit said that, wish I'd beaten them to it, it's a glorious sentence). Me? I'm hearing a more languid Wilco. 'Modern Phenomena' has a lovely dream like feel to it; acoustics, chiming guitars, hushed vocals, whispered backing. Two minutes and thirty two seconds of loveliness; get in, make your point, make your song lovely and get out again so that we can hit replay. It's a damn fine equation. (Debut album, also called 'Modern Phenomena', out May 18th)
